We are excited to share an update on the installation of athletic field lights that will positively impact students who are involved in our district’s athletic and activities programming. This project is funded by the 2018 Capital Improvement Program to support Jeffco’s Healthy & Equitable Start and End Times initiative.
Last fall, approval was given for the district to move forward with the development of a plan and budget to install field lights at Jeffco’s 16 high schools that do not have them. You can view the presentation to the Board (slides 9 & 10).
One of the significant benefits of this project is the improved safety and peace of mind it offers our students during evening practices. Having practices on campus ensures quick access to essential resources including our Athletic Trainers, life-saving devices such as AEDs and Epipens and well-planned Emergency Access Plans.
This summer, the installation will begin for the athletic field lights at all high schools to support Jeffco students.
What you should know

The design for each of the sixteen high schools consists of four poles not exceeding 80’, equipped with MUSCO LED lighting. The lights will be designed to ensure that the playing surface is adequately lit up while preventing any spill of light beyond the field boundaries.
- Special consideration will be made to our neighbors and nearby residences as we work through the installation process.
- Our school’s timeline for installation is set to begin on June 7 (timeline subject to change slightly).
- Materials are set to arrive prior to our school’s installation time.
- Xcel Energy will be responsible for setting up the electrical service.
- The lights will be wired so a portable generator can provide power if necessary.
The lifelong value that athletics and activities provide student athletes – from a sense of belonging, cultivation of discipline and reward of personal growth and development is part of the extraordinary student experience in Jeffco. The field lights at Pomona High School will ensure that our students have access to these experiences.
